Back Brakes Not Working?

'82 F150, 6 cyl, automatic, no air conditioning.

First symptom is excessive pedal travel, second is the parking brake doesn't work. I know the parking brake engages the rear brakes. I've driven it on the county road in front of the house and can hit the brakes hard and lock the front brakes and it doesn't feel like any braking is being done by the back. Forgot to mention, the fluid level is fine on the master cylinder which leads me to believe this is not leaking wheel cylinders, but I'm stumped.

Money's tight and I'm trying to diagnose and fix this myself. I'm not a mechanic but have been a weekend warrior for 45 years. I've managed to fix most stuff myself. Especially on these older vehicles.

I appreciate any and all suggestions. I'm at a loss as to what to even check.

Thanks everyone

Adjust your rear brakes. Jack up the rear and turn the tire as you move the star wheel adjuster through the slot in the backing plate. Keep going till you can't move the tire by hand, and then go the other way till you can move the tire but there is still slight rubbing. Do both sides.
