My 1954 F100 is a project I bought from a family friend. It has been through a very long restoration and I bought it as a basket case. It had $8000 invested in the engine with a new Holley 600 cfm carb, Sitting off and on for the last 10 years, I got it road worthy a couple weeks ago and drove it. After a 5 mile trip, I had a wheel cylinder give out and carb was over fueling due to debris in needle and seat. I disassembled the carb and found the bowls and plate peeling apart. The bowl also had a hole all the way through it. After research, I found the fuel was causing a caustic situation due to methanol. I have decided to go with propane carb set up. Has anyone tried this? There is no spoilage and the fuel is $2 per gallon. I buy wholesale so, the set up is not much more than a good new carb.
All I can say I have a friend a local propane co. His propane trucks mainly
391's and 429's all on propane. 500,000 miles absoulutly nothing- pulling
rockers covers off. spark plug still new at a 100,000 oil changes quadruplled.
No sludge clean tail pipes etc. so you be the judge.......

Just like Big Job said. My dad had a propane business and no issues. The propane tank and it's size may be the only issue.

I don't see where you have said what engine is in your truck. I am
guessing it's not original. Right? The only thing I know of against
propane power is that it makes less Power. But with a bigger engine
that's over come to a point.
Power loss is not a problem. I have more than 1 tire can handle. It is a mildly built 302 roller and 5 speed out of a 1989 GT Mustang. I heard of a 5% power loss. I would say that I have around 300+. I am a Parts Manager at a forklift dealership and buy all lp parts wholesale. I found a mixer (carb) that you use a throttle plate from my dead 600 cfm holley... works for me. I will be using either 44.5 or 33.5 # tanks in the bed. We have plenty for free to me as in most of the parts. I only have to buy the regulator and carb.
