Propane

So I have a question...well, first a little history, I bought my 65 ford truck off of a friend of the family, I am the third owner now, the origional owner painted the truck orange(Originally yellow) sometime between when he bought it and when he sold it in 79 to my friend. now, there are holes in the bed of the truck, and the guy I bought it off of says that the original owner was running it on propane, but was also using the truck for hauling, it's got the 240 engine, has anyone heard of this being done in the sixties and seventies at all? also, the carb It has is a motorcraft single barrel, it fits and all, but everything I've seen shows that its not the right one, this one is almost a perfect cube, is that right?

IsoGrifo, Trucks have been fitted to run propane for a while, usually service trucks that don't venture out too far because propane is not readily available like gasoline. Carbs can be easily swapped out and often are. Nothing unusual about that. When the propane conversion was removed he likely bought a new carb. IMHO
