Roof cross supports

The braces running across my cab roof appear to have separated from the outer skin. The roof has that oil can tinniness to it now.

It looks like there was some kind of foam bonding them together before? It was hard to get a decent picture. Any ideas for stiffening it back up? I was thinking of wedging some dense foam between the outer skin and the braces.

I would probably try scraping the old foam out, cleaning up both sides as much as possible, give it a light sanding/scratching then use window and door expanding foam. I say window and door (blue can) because it doesn't expand as much so it shouldn't deform anything. Cover the interior up with plastic or something because if it gets on the upholstery its permanent.

That sounds like it could work.

One idea I had was to slip some dynomat (more likely a cheaper knockoff) between there. I wanted to do the roof anyway. Seems like it would take quite a bit in some spots, so maybe do the deadener on the outer skin and then spray foam.

I have been advised on here that the expanding foam will hold water and cause rust, so if you use it make sure you don't have any leaks first!

If you have any leaks, some clear caulk usually can fix that issue without being super noticeable.

As for the foam, you could also put some dabs of glue/caulk on the inside, put some mil plastic on there as tight as you can then spray the foam in there, in case there are any unknown leaks, the foam won't absorb it.

Thanks for the ideas. I think it's leak-free now. I'm thinking I'm going to put the peel 'n' seal down first and then wedge some closed cell foam in there.
