new cam

I have intake off already so: Dropping my 2 barrel, going back with a cast ford intake probably a Edelbrock 600, So my question is,{ The engine is still in the truck}going with a new mild cam, Can I get by using my old springs ? it is 4x4, no hi rpm. Your thoughts ?

If your referring to valve springs I see no reason not to if they're in good shape. Since you didn't mention it don't forget new lifters and the cam break in procedure.

Sorry, it is a 100,000 mile engine, had a lifter collapse , which is why I'm in it in the start, new lifters. I read about the above 2000 rpm break in for 20 minutes. also timing chain and gears.

I would replace the springs if it were me. That will be asking a lot of a set of 100,000 mile springs imho. Since you have intake off I would just pull the heads and replace valve seals and head gaskets. Or you could always change springs with the heads on.....

cam

Friend of mine suggested a stock 427 cam, I would change valve springs. still have a 100,000 mile engine. wonder if it would be to much.

Almost all "427" cams are solid lifter cams.

A high performance cam on top of low compression pistons will not get good results.

And this, the rep-worthy analogy of the century:

building a 100k motor is like giving grandpa a line of coke it will work but not for long

100K miles on stock springs, you would get more life from a few rubber bands.

Problem is, any power upgrades will just push the blowby past the piston rings more than it is already. Leave well enough alone, replace the lifters, and be done with it.

Matter of fact, at any RPM past 3000 or so, your existing springs are probably limiting your power more than the cam is
