Fixing to buy a 6.0 with no after market parts motor wise. Do i need to go a head and change the head studs and egr delete or wait? Will be my first diesel project so just need some guidance... any other imput would be much appreciated. Its bone stock besides 4 inch lift and tires
If you have a smart phone you can get the torque app pro through the play store for like 5 bucks then you need the obd2 plug in that is for the blue tooth and that cost like 20 bucks. Or go to autozone and get a scangauge for 120 or so bucks. Look at oil temp, coolant temp, ficm voltage, icp and ipr values

It all depends on what your plans for the truck are mod wise. If you are going to leave it stock then Id say you have a lower risk of anything going wrong.
But if you are wanting to add tunes and other power producing upgrades then I would suggest looking at bullet proofing the engine. Or at a min studs and egr delete.
Also if you haven't bought it yet, prior to buying it check the oil and make sure there is no fuel or coolant in the oil. And pay attention to the exhaust when you start it up to make sure its not blowing white smoke. All signs of Head and EGR problems.
Dont wanna do anything i dont have to. Just want a truck thats is dependable maybe pull a trailer now and then. But also dont wanna gas on it and tear it up.

If you want dependability then you need gauges to keep an eye on things as previously mentioned, there are a couple more options too as far as gauges go, Dashboss for IOS devices and Edge Insight CTS, there are others as well but I don't know them off hand.

If you no plans of any power upgrades, I would say since it is a 6.0 which are notorious for blowing EGR valves, I would either do a delete or upgrade to a better EGR cooler such as a bulletproof, Sinister, RCD, etc. The new EGR cooler wont 100% protect you from a blown EGR but will be better than the stock EGR cooler.
If you don't want to do any of that, like Mustang309 said a good set of gauges go along way so you can monitor whats going on in the engine and trans. I run the Edge Insight CTS and love them. They will monitor several things at once.
Just keep in mind a little bit of preventive maintenance will these vehicles may save you thousands in the long run.
Personally, I'd delete the EGR Cooler and put a new oil cooler in it while I'm at it. Then I'd change all of the fluids and not worry about anything else. Most of the stock HG issues were caused by a leaking EGR Cooler.
