I have a 2003 F150 V6 4.2L, 171,000 miles on it. I have four codes on it.
#p1518
#p0316
#p0303
#p0136
I had a p1518 in november of 2012, had it repaired and its back. In the time that I had it repaired and it came back on (maybe a month and a half ago) I only drove the truck maybe 3000 miles, if that. Just curious if this particular part should have some kind of warranty either by the MFG or dealer since the dealer repaired it.
Have a limited budget, trying to find out what I can fix on my own in a timely manner.
Quick update if anyone is reading this. I took my truck out for a ride, tried to push it. It seemed to be doing better. It was raining today while I was driving it and it was starting to misfire. I thought it may have something to do with it, not 100% sure. But it wasn't raining tonight. I noticed if I shifted at higher RPM's it wouldn't stutter as much. I was still getting a stutter when it was under strain (low RPM or going up a hill or if I floored it) usually once it got into higher RPM it would smooth out. Still looking for any suggestions, particularly on the IMRC that was replaced a little over a year ago.
Dan, first you can't 'fix anything' by running the truck as you did.
You have three...3... troubles.
A cylinder misfiring code 303 the #3.
The 316 will clear when you repair for cylinder 3. The last cylinder back on the passenger side.
The second issue is code 136 an Ox sensor 'circuit issue' for the 'rear' sensor #2, bank 1 passenger side. Likely a burn or rub through on the harrness. Get under and look.
Third, the 1518 is the intake runner control on bank 2, the driver side.
You must look at the code descriptions if you are to have any chance of doing the repairs.
Good luck.
Another update. I drove my truck today. It still had a bit of a hitch in it, particularly when I applied the throttle. Got home today with some new spark plugs that I was going to put in. Did some other chores, then went to the grocery store. When I did, no more stutter or misfire. I swear I am not making this up. The only thing that has changed in the last two days has been the weather. It was raining buckets yesterday and raining throughout the day today while I was driving it. When I went to the store, it was dry out. That is literally the only difference at all. I have not touched anything on it. Is there any way rain could be causing it to misfire? A cable not seated properly, anything at all I should be looking for? I do know the housing for the throttle cable is not on. Could this be causing anything? (Sorry if I am coming off as stupid, but I was raised the only dumb question is the one not asked, and while I am good with my hands, I do not have a lot of technical or troubleshooting expertise when it comes to vehicles) Any thoughts at all would help.
And Bluegrass, I never claimed to have fixed anything. I was merely stating what I did to try to give more symptoms that I could share on here. If I just say that it is misfire and don't give any kind of conditions, then it defeats the purpose of the whole forum.
Well respectfully, after I take the time and interest to explain about what you do and what the codes mean and you get insulted, then some one else will have to help that is more qualified than I.
Good luck.
