Lost power steering and power breaks!??

I have a 2008 F350 6.4ltr
I was just rolling up to a stop sign and lost my power steering and power breaks! I quickly pulled over and opened the good thinking I lost my serpentine belt. Everything looked fine, jumped back in my truck and everything was working again??
Anyone have any suggestions what caused this??

Check the level of your power steering/hydro boost fluid. White reservoir with black cap mounted on right side of fan shroud looking at the truck. Also has this fluid ever been changed/flushed?

Your power steering pump may be failing. As sxrfun states, check your power steering fluid. Your brakes and steering use the power steering pump for power. Somewhere along the line you lost pressure. Either the pump failed to build pressure due to low fluid level, there is a valve of some sort sticking, or it went past a seal or hose. Check for visual leaks.

Ok, I checked the fluid level, it is low a little bit. I'm gonna add more to it today, what type of fluid is called for the power steering?
The fluid also has never bin changed. Can this be flushed by a shop or is there an easy way that I can do it myself?
I can't find any visible leaks either.

You could still have a drive belt issue if the tensioner is not working correctly. While these trucks do not normally steer well stopped with the brake on, this is a good stress test to see if the belt is slipping, especially if someone watches the belt movement during this event.

There are machines that can flush the power steering/brake system. Shouldn't be too much money, maybe a couple hundred bucks. FMTRVT does have a point and you may want to check that as well. How many miles on your truck?

I believe the fluid used is Mercron V trans fluid? I'd have to double check once I get home. There's an easy way to flush it yourself....google ford hydro boost flush, or maybe ford power steering flush... there's an excellent u tube video. Basically you unhook hose from hydro boost unit, attach a chunk of hose(3/8" I think) that's long enough to run over fender into a suitable container on the ground. Have fresh fluid ready( several quarts) Turn steering side to side/ pump the brakes and fluid will be pushed into container on the ground. Important part of doing this is to keep that white reservoir topped up between full marks with the fresh fluid. Keep an eye on fluid exiting the truck....when it looks fresh and new, top off reservoir, re-attach hose that you originally disconnected to hydro boost and you're done. If you use a clear hose to drain old fluid it's easier to see color of fluid exiting the system.
