85 - 6.9 F250. 4x4. Alternator went out so I bought a new one now its over charging. Probably what caused the old one to burn out, any ideas?
First, overcharging? What voltage?
Second, these alternators have an external regulator. It's about a 3" square box, 1" tall with a 4-wire connector coming out of it on the passenger side inside fender.
Either it's failing, or you've got grounding issues.
Whether you replace it or not, I suggest running a nice ground lead from the engine block to the casing of that regulator(or whatever it's bolted to).
An over charging alternator can cause the acid level to drop in your batteries. You may want to check the fluid level just to be safe. I hope they didn't get fried by your old alternator...
Mezman, you need to be a bit more descriptive, both in your titles and the content of your threads.
Seriously.... "electrical" ?
also, what's your vehicle? what year? I'd love to tell you what I think your problem is (the VR), but if you have a newer IDI, then you probalby have an internal regulator.
