Is this idea a little far-fetched..................... I wanna buy a '97-98 F-150 flareside standard cab with a 5.4 V8, drop it, put a lightning conversion body kit on it, and throw a blower on it. Is this possible/what would i need to do? Would it be easier to just throw a 5.0 or a 351 into it instead of trying to rebuild a newer 5.4 L? i dont have a lot of experience with engine building.
you wanna be Lightning guys kill me, If you want a Lightning buy a Lightning, your going to spend more money and time trying to build a fake a Lightning than its worth, just get the real thing and be done with it.
What happened to the pleasure of building something yourself? Like a big block to smoke a Lightning to show people ain't just about dropping some coin at a dealership?
Why can't the guy do what he wants to do? Isn't freedom what America is about? Just because you don't like it doesn't mean he can't enjoy it.....now lets get back to his post please guys.
Some people can't stand the fact that some will build something they had to pay for to get.
If you can build it, cool, more power to you. If you don't have the skills to build power, or your ego depends on a badge, and you have the money, buy it.
Nothing wrong with buying a Lightning, nice trucks and I've considered one myself.... but you shouldn't put down people because they don't buy one (unless your ego bruises easily).
As soon as I can afford my new F350 diesel dually I will retire my 1996 F 150 4*4. Hope to make a 4*4 lightning replica out of it using parts if possible comparable to the lightning parts of that year.
I was in a gas station in Wildwood Florida several years ago. A guy pulled in with a new looking black Ford Pick up, it was a lightning. He was pulling a mid sized travel trailer. We got to talking and he had just come form Gainsville raceway. (1/4 mile track). He said he was dailed in on a 13.0 Went several rounds and broke out on a run with a camaro. Sounded like fun to me.
Just take a newer flareside 4x4, lower to lightning stance, convert it all wheel drive, put on body kit, dump a new v-10 in it with a kenne bell blowzilla on top of it and see what happens.
No it will not fit. Buy a 73 - 79 shortbed f150 you can squeeze a big block in those trucks. Build it up and beat the hell out of a lightning at the fraction of cost. You wont recoup your money though if you sell it
I have an 01' f-150 extended cab with the lighting body kit, 20" wheels, a ******** hard tonneu cover, billet grille in both upper and lower, a fully carpeted bed. I have a 4.6 in it with a kennebell supercharger. It has about 370 rwhp.
