Looking to purchase new tires and shocks (see my sig for truck info). Will be towing a TT with GVWR at about 8500#.
Towing in high heat areas (So Cal, AZ, NV). Will also use the truck to tow and launch my 21' pontoon boat, so good wet traction tires are a must.
I want a good quality tire with smooth riding characteristics, as the truck is pretty firm as it is. Coopers are made in U>S., not too many tires made here in the good old USA!
This is on my list:
Tires: Cooper Discoverer HT - LT235/85R/16 E
Shocks: Bilstein 4600 Series
BTW....where's a good place to order shocks online?
I will say this. Ride quality in a 1 ton is a double edge sword. You want ride and weight carrying. I had a 94 4x4 IDI. Put load range d tires on it and it rode nice but absolutely worthless for pulling trailer with bobcat. Load range e was great for pulling trailer but rode rough. I will always stick with the harder ride, and be safer pulling loads. MY 2 CENTS.
Sounds like you’ve good some great trips ahead. Along with tires and shocks, for great handling improvements while towing you should look at the StableLoad suspension upgrade. It greatly reduces side to side sway, sag and trailer bounce. It also easily disengages when not towing and will make your ride much smoother. They are also made in the good ole' USA!
I've been researching/considering the Michelin LTX M/S 2. Pricey at $194 per tire, but damn good tire. I have them on the wife's sequoia and they are great.
Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo2 should get the job done. Its probably the only Bridgestone/Firestone product I like. My truck had them when I bought it and they were quite nice, but being worn out and impending snow necessitated replacement.
The Yokohama Geolander H/T-S is also a great choice. Theyre great for trucks and SUVs that spend most of their time on pavement. We sell quite a few of them, since few people actually require the grip of the A/T-S
The Michelin LTX is an awesome tire, if you can stomach the cost. They last a long time and are very quiet and smooth. They do fairly well in snow, however I doubt youll be encountering much if any.
I just put Hi-fly Vigorous a/t 601's on my 97 F250HD. Load range e (10-ply) and they ride smooth and in mud and snow so far have done great. The whole set was just shy of $700 with road hazard from Merchants. They also have a 40,000 mile warranty which is hard to find for A/T tires that are e-rated.
