The tail lights look like they might be from a 55 Ford Fairlane without the fins.
I am with the camper theory, might have been a tall one with a walk in door which might account for the helper springs.

Your joking, right? No way this truck has seen serious salt, at least nothing like up here in WI.

Bingo!

I thought they looked like Comet lights without the chrome fins.

What a gold mine that would be! Why don't you buy it, and scan all the pages, and post them here for your good buddies on the forum?!

I scanned a copy many years ago, I have it on CD or you can get it off of my web site:

www.fatfenderedtrucks.com/hildys/page003.jpg and change the number until you got to 261. I also have the cover, cover.jpg and backpage.jpg

There are a couple of pages that didn't scan correctly but the rest are very large and good quality.

Bob,
I still think I'm on the right track with the custom frosty beverage dispenser truck.

That opening is just about the right width for one keg of frosty beverages. Get the truck going, fill up the bed with kegs and head out here to the desert and we'll show you how to off-load your product.

I've got the 1954 Hildy's Blue Book and I didn't pay $249 for it! I think I only paid less than $18 for it.

Bob, the camper idea sound plausible. I can picture a full height door at the back. Could those heavy duty bumpers have been used somehow to level the truck and camper when parked with jack stands?

Are there wear marks on the flares or in the bedsides where a camper would have rubbed?

And what the heck happened to the front end?

Usually with a slide in camper there would be at least one hole in the bed for a sink drain.

Think built in place. This one predated the fancy slidey in store bought version. I'm thinking Bob needs to recreate one so it can be the chase vehicle for the next Excellent Adventure. It would improve the down time comfort while awaiting rescue. Plus, they would still avoid motel costs.

Yeah, I'm sure sitting for 12-1/2 hours in a Bonus Built cab would have made the wait all the better over sitting in a truck with more leg and head and side to side room with push back seats that support the whole body and recline. NOT!!! Although it probably would have looked cooler

Duane, you should stop over and take a look. You're welcome to take a look as long as you don't post pictures asking what's wrong with it

The box, inside and out, doesn't have any major marks, dings or damage. Someone did weld a metal tray it in, it's not the stock metal as far as I can see. All the holes along the back seem to be for adjusting something. The front bumper was made of iron channel and has a couple of small uprights so maybe there was a rack system of some type. If that is truck you'd think there'd be a bunch of dents on top of the cab and in the box. The cab's roof is dented but not excessively, pretty much normal for the age of truck.

I don't know what happened to the front end. It's like it was from a truck owned by two people, one who took care of the back half and another that beat the snot out of the front. The front was banged up and filled with mud, I am surprised the rest of the truck doesn't match.
