Guess what this truck was used for

This F-1 is from Chris's and my latest trip, adventure, fiasco, whatever you want to call it.

It's looks a lot worse than it is. The front clip, and hood are junk but the cab has very little rust and the box is almost mint. I have all the parts to replace the bad pieces. I've never seen a box this nice. It's not dented and rusted out and the rear fenders are pretty solid with only minor rust along the bolting area, I usually see the edge completely rotted out. It even looks better since last night when we mounted a set of used tires on the mag rims, now the truck sits level and we've even given it a name, "El Diablo Rouge", "The Red Devil".

Anyone want to take a guess at what the truck was used for by looking at the custom work on the back of the box? It looks like there might have been some adjustable brackets used to hold something. Luckily whoever did the work welded their pieces over the rear pockets and they're in good condition, all I'll have to do is grind the welds off and clean them up.

Bob,
The grills not right to be a manure spreader so I must have been used to distribute frosty beverages to all the good boys and girls in Old Truck Land.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it

My first guess was hay bales, but I'd doubt that. I'm gonna guess it was a pig hauler with wooden sides at one time, and that was part of the "gate" where they unloaded them?

If the bed is mint, I'm guessing camper or a cap of some sort. Homemade of course.

I was thinking maybe used by a fire department. The box is really nice, not dented or dinged, the only rust is toward the back along where the floor met the side, the usual place but not bad at all. It had to be taken care of by someone for most of it's life. Even the rear fenders are dentless.

Rouge is French. El Diablo is Spanish. Maybe it should be El Diablo Rojo.

Whatever it was used for, the bed wasn't used as a workhorse.

Bob, I have a few good tailgates... even a red one.

I'd bet the camper or some sort of variation is the right answer, especially considering how the box is not beat up.

The engine turns very easily by hand. It's missing the carb so I'm going to pull the intake to make sure no little vermin made a mess inside.

Hey, I was going by what my son's said, he had high school Spanish, way more than I've had

We might have to talk about tailgates if I can't find one locally.

One more thing I forgot, the rear has helper springs over the stock springs so it must have been used to haul a heavy load. I doubt those would be needed for a camper, but I guess it depended on the size of the people camping

Could have been used to haul a salt spreader.
