Oh I replaced it with the shroud there just had to loosen it an move it around so I could get everything on there to get the pulley off an on. So far the new one is holding up. I got it from advance auto because I get a commercial discount. But I still don't trust a lot of things from there.
An I'm gonna hi jack my own thread while I have some of the best looking at it.
I have a slight problem I can open my drivers door an hop in perfect. But to get out I have to crank the window down an open it from outside.
It started off with the metal around the handle broke someone else had already welded it back together. Well lo an behold there ain't enough metal left so I fabed up a plate to go on the backside worked perfect for a few months. But now I can't open it again I can barely get it to unlock the door.
Try using your keys to unlock the truck while your in it! End up with key marks all around the lock.
The plate I made is still in the same place an tight the handle still springs back the way it should an the cable ain't broke. So just short of replacing the whole door I'm at a loss at what it could be. Plus I'm tired of cranking the window down to get out.
The pivot in the inside door handle assembly is probably worn out. When it gets worn down so far the cable doesn't move far enough to actually release the latch. You may be due for a new "hinge" assembly for that latch handle.

The cable can stretch causing this.I got a new one off EBay for like $12 or so. You can also remove the pivot part where the handle bolts on, and turn the pivot part the way the cable is made. When you look at the cable you will see there is a natural twist in the cable. If you twist it , you will wrap the cable tighter, and cause it to shorten a little. This will work for a while, but mine finally broke.
Is the plate you installed under the part where the pivot handle bolt to the door? That pice of the door can crack, allowing the pivot assembly to flex on the mounting spot. Some over sized fender washers on the bottom side of the mounting plate fixed one of mine.
