sudden hard shifting
hi guy's. first I want to say I can't seem to get away from this site. incredibly helpful and impressive. I stumbled on here while investigating my shifting issue. I am a mechanical contractor and bought this van to drive and tow a small trailer for out of town jobs. it's a 1991 conversion with a jasper 5.8. it had less than 3000 miles when I bought it 2 years ago. it now has about 15-18k miles. a couple months ago the starter had gone bad and had to replace it on the road side with a used one just to get it home. well I need now so I replaced the starter last week and wound up breaking a vac line that goes to the map sensor. it also started shifting hard from 1 to 2. I replaced the line and found no more vac issues. I related this it the shifting but I guess it was not the culprit. it idles very rough now at first. I don't really know where to look next. I tomorrow I plan to run a vac test and test the map sensor. this site has inspired me to fix all the little things as well like the temp and fuel gauge and a couple others. thanks in advance and I apologize for and info I left out.
