it wasn't for very long, and its transmission is just junk(junk enough to make the vehicle unroadworthy), so i started it one day, was playing around and hit 7000 rpm while in neutral. but it did have an odd vibration when I got it up that high
I had a 86 sable with the 3.0. It had the factory tach but it lied so i hooked my own. Mine would cut at 5800 in park and in nuetral. And it cut out at 5800 in overdrive on the highway. This happened about six different times. I guess that top speed is 115mph but i don't know why it turned that rpm in overdrive. i beat the crap out of the car. And I had side exhaust out in front of passenger door. It sounded cool so i reved it up many times. No tickets
I floorboarded my wifes Aerostar (1992) 3.0 automatic off the line onto a freeway ramp and it did the 1-2 shift at 5700 so I figure redline must be somewhere in the neighborhood of 6000 as the auto tranny is not supposed to allow it to redline (when properly functioning). Also took out the square intake funnel in the air box and it sounds a lot better when you get on it and even under moderate loads. Also nearly 100 K trouble free miles. Great engine, just a bit short on cubes. Could use a few more pound feet of torque--say another 100 or so
Correction. Having matted the pedal a few more times on this thing it appears the 1-2 shift is at 5300, not 5700. Problem is I was reading the tach scale like the 55 mark was 60.
i rev mine up till the rev limiter kicks in. It kicks it at like 5.6k or something like that. But i gotta shift in nutreal so there's kinda pointless cept i like my flowmaster exaust sound haha.
