I about died when I saw this again. btw, 2wd with a rear locker is great. However, after driving with 4x4 this winter, it doesn't hold a candle to 4x4. They work good on dry, lumpy ground when normally you'd be spinning one yer peg leg trying to climb stuff, but even so, I've got stuck on wet grass and in snow with a 2wd & locker. When I got my 4x4 running, I surprised myself many, many times when I pulled the magic lever and backed up or drove out of a place where I'd be spinning all over before.
Anyways, you can definately do some good exploring with 2wd since you still have way better ground clearance than, say, a 5.0 liter mustang, like everyone else said, don't do mud unless you want to hit 60mph first, as least if its deep..
I can't believe you guys thought Rocket was even serious for a second. Its too damn funny cause thats how these guys come across so often. Its sad that I laughed my *** off at Rlh's post (good work man!), sad cuz its days before editing are numbered. Dammit all. I'm still laughing....
yes Pro, i agree with you, but some ppl on here would argue till death that their 2wd is so much better than any 4x4! i can't always tell, although rocket has always had some pretty good info.
some 2wds can do ok, they just cant go through deep stuff.the people who say 2wd is better than 4wd just dont know. i mean have you ever seen a thread titled "help with converting my 4x4 to 2wd" ?? it just doesnt happen
die you *@^$@(*&$%^!ing thread DIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hahaha..."help with converting my 4x4 to 2wd"....bwhahahHAHAHAHAHAH
so so true. 2wd workds great for your average mall crawler, pavement pounder, and the ocasional urban wheeler, but honestly guys..........there is one plain and simple reason why 4wd was EVER EVER invented, and that is because 2wd just sometimes doesnt cut it. end of story.
i have a 94 150 2wd 3" lift with 31 i got through stuff u would need a 4 wheel drive. like everyone else said is to use momentum.i have a ranch hand on it and went through a hole that was a little deeper than it look and took off the top off the other side off the hole and knocked my ranch hand loose and got a little air. the way i got through it was momentum u cant be scared u get stuck your stuck oh well u break stuff thats part of it.
Do you have a pic of your truck, I have 31's with stock suspension. Im curious as to what it would look like with a lift.
Keeping with the topic I used to go mudding with my 76 highboy with 460PI & 38's and I always used 2wd, and rarely got stuck. My philosophy is if your the only truck in the middle of nowwhere its much better to get stuck in 2wd than 4wd, at least you can use 4wd to get yourself out.
Tectron- that sounds good and all to run 2wd and then when you get stuck use 4x4, but everytime i have done that, i just end up stuck in 4x4 too. it doesn't work that well and most of the time i could have made it through with a little momentom and 4x4 just fine.
TO all that may read this thread... LET IT DIE PLEASE!!!!!!!!
