i think the most disturbing thing about this whole thread is the moderator's picture. (sorry, i'm drinking)

It's easy to not look at my avatar if you don't like it.

The QR symbol in my sig is clickable and you'll be taken to a post here where you can read the origins of the picture....

Yes, it does 2 functions, it puts power to the starter, and it puts a full 12 volts to the coil to assist in cold starts.

You can probably get away with leaving it unplugged and still use the truck until you can replace it..
