So after I got my turbo installed and all gauged up, my isspro gauge was not working...
#1 replaced thermocouple
Still made no difference.. since the gauge was really old I figured I'd just replace with new. Picked up a autometer 3344 pryo, installed per instructions. Ok I turn the key on and gauge drops to 0*F (cold engine).. start and warm up, gauge still on 0. Went for a road test and still reads 0, I rechecked power and ground to the gauge - found to be ok. Replaced thermocouple with new still no difference... is the thermocouple grounding itself in the exhaust up pipe? Should I use some thread sealant to maybe not ground it?.. 6.9 with a non gate banks
If the gauges and wires are good you should be fine. Check around with a multimeter. If you don't find anything you've got a short and should reinstall.
pyrometers are tricky gauges. some use power, others don't.
the banks units i use are self powering. the only reason you would put 12 volts to it is for a light.
i know some of the others require 12 volts to work though.
and most need thermocouple and gauge to match.
meaning you usually can not use an autometer thermocouple with a issopro gauge.
also, the thermocouple usually is just like a thermometer. as the temp increases, it produces a small voltage that is sent to the gauge to read.
this voltage is represented in millivolts though, and usually not readily read by a regular volt meter.
ok, according to the autometer 3344 instruction page: http://www.autometer.com/productPDF/1129A.pdf
yellow of the thermocouple goes to gauge pos terminal, and red goes to gauge neg terminal.
plus, you need to hook the gauge up to a switched 12 volt source in addition connecting the light to 12 volts..
Correct, I'm going to see if the gauge has power while cranking. If it doesn't then it might be going into a "calibration" mode when its actually needing to be reading the thermo
