Yeah the prop valve. For some reason that name always escapes me. Any was for hydroboost you definitely need new stuff. I've been told I should look into an f350 setup for my 78. It might be worth it since I need to redo the entire brake system..
It's been a while, but I finally got my back axle home yesterday. Cleaning that up will begin tomorrow after work and after I get the headlight bezel back on.
As for tonight's progress, I got the headlight bezel off, minus the trim piece underneath that I couldn't get to yet. It took probably 2 hours to get off due to a 20-30 minute hood latch not releasing delay and cooking dinner.
I'll get some pics tomorrow since the last 45 minutes of the work was lit by a shop light.
Today was more of a cosmetic work day than a mechanical work day.
I got the brackets for the headlight bezel cleaned, primed and painted a metallic silver.
Along with both mounting brackets for my Dick's Cepek light bar.
Brackets all on and everything but the grill bolted down.
Then the grill got bolted on.
Along with the light bar which had to be cut down 2 3/8" to fit on the truck. She looks kind of funny without lights though. Anyone have any recommendations? Looking for 2 spot lights in the middle and just a spread light on the outsides.
After all that was buttoned up (still have to get the trim piece underneath sand blasted which is why it's missing.) I went sanded the sun visor then sprayed it with the same metallic paint.
As for mechanical things. I got the front axle torn down. Took some beating with a sledge hammer and some melting with the oxy/acetylene torch. Turns out it has 4.10s, BUT the pinion gear needs replaced since one tooth is shattered.
Both axles are at the sandblaster. He's not in a big hurry to get it done, and neither am I since the weather is calling for rain all week I don't want to try and bring them home in the rain.
One of the 4x4 guys at the blasters place looked at the front axle and he thinks it's a D60 king pin, while another guy on here thought it was a D44 HD. (can't find any serial numbers to confirm yet.)
Yesterday was Broncorama! Didn't really sell much, but I got some nice compliments on the truck and of course the naysayers.
I picked up 2 very good looking door panels for $25 for the pair, 2 tow hooks (up to 6 now) and a brand new, never used, freshly painted, tailgate for $150.
The local show truck is up for sale. I figure I'd show it off. $45,000. Numerous awards, 47,000 original miles. Neon, chrome, undercoating. 454, coated headers, stainless steel exhaust, 70s ford 3/4 ton axles.. 15" chrome rims, forget the tire size.
The neon lights
I think I'm going to try and aim for this level of professionalism or better on mine.
So this weekend I worked on swapping out the tailgate I bought at Broncorama. $150, brand new, unused and painted not primed!
Unfortunately I was focused on the tailgate on only snapped photos when I remembered too.
First thing I did was strip down the tailgate.
Glass, motor, gear, handle, switches, wiring, and rails. Also the weather stripping came off. Unfortunately I need all new weather stripping so that didn't get put back on.
Tailgate is off and I got to work on some of the rust on the body.
Sanded it until I was somewhat happy with the work for now. Until I get a sand blaster later this summer.
Got it primed and threw a coat of left over paint on it.
(This is primed)
New tailgate (still in the new box)
Skip ahead after I have it 85% back on.
I noticed I had a few wires corroded off and broken that connect to the window (I assume it's the defroster wires.)
After I got some adjustments done and was happy with how it is until I get the new quarter panels.
Tomorrow I'll be buying a whole weather stripping kit from JBG.
The axles are covered in undercoating. Stupid me still doesn't know what my front axle is so I may just sell it and head to LKQ Pick Your Part - Grand Rapids | LKQ Pick Your Part and see what I can find to match my rear axle. I have some phone calls to make tomorrow before my decision is final.
