I have been trying to upload pics of the different oil pans for the 385 series engines and right now the site won't accept them. There are 5 different oil pans (that I know of), 2wd truck, 4wd truck, front sump car, mid sump car, and van. If you are having trouble with your drain plug then you may have a car pan. A 2wd truck will drain from the rear of the sump and a car will drain from the side of the sump. Both pans are front sump.
Thanks I got the pics to upload to my album but not in message block..
you cant even drag an drop them... copy an paste nothing..this is a first for a website an me... but trying to get help with this its looking like I am gonna have to remove the a/c box off the firewall an cut the cross I hope not but driverside is good.....
The oil pans from left to right are; 2wd truck, front sump car, 4wd truck, and mid sump car. My van pan is on the engine and looks a lot like the far right except it has a small sump towards the front. These pans are orientated with the front of the pans towards the bottom of the picture.
I used the 460 oil pan from Ford Racing from a foxbody. Very similar if not the same as #3 (black one) in the pic above. You can buy a kit that includes pan, pickup, dipstick, and gasket. Fits very nice.
If you have the tall valve covers you will get interference with the AC housing and or the brake booster. Guess you already avoided the buster issue. Have heard of some modifying the AC box to fit. I just eliminated it and have the in cab heat only. Not overly hot here in PA during the summer.
