towing guide

Ive decided to post and list my top things ive used while towing and talk about somethings I havent and why I havent and must haves. This is all my opinions just hoping to guid someone. Im guilty of towing a little over payload at times, dirt, horses, tractors etc etc and these are my findings.

Brake controller. A must have weather your towing an empty trailer or 10k pounds I strongly urge anyone who is thinking about one get one. Theres already a prewired hook up for them.

Towing mirrors. All depends on prefrences. Standard mirrors can usually do the job. With towing mirrors you basically have the same size mirror as a standard with a bottom mirror and extendable. I will never take mine off though they are so nice and did I mention no blind spot?

Programmer. Whether it be SCT, Bully Dog, Edge, PHP, Diablo or any other brand I strongly recommend one. Fuel gains alone will end up paying it off. 9mpg towing with out 10.5 with a PHP with custom tunes. Let alone it allows you to watch temps like a hawk

Intake. This one here is back to prefrence. They seem to open up the engine with the sound, throttle response and slight gain of power. If you dont like the sound of yoyr engine then ive towned plenty eith stock intake and never noticed a huge diffrence.

Air bags. All depends on what your hauling. For my case with 9k worth of hayburners and the trailer the squat was a little to much so I got the bags and made a huge diffrence. I dont notice any diffrence in ride quality empty. (Note I have a 3 inch leveling kit so it really kept the truck level) if tops your towing in the 4k range I dont think itd be worth it for you.

Efans. I have never ran them but I dont recommend them. The amount of error there is too much for me when the truck is underload and getting warm

Larger tranny cooler. I do recommend this for heavier hauling. Tranny runs a lil warm for my liking when out of over drive and hot tranny can equal welded gears. Been there done that when mine got plugged.

If there's any more anyone else has questions on ill be happy to answer to the best of my ability. Hope this helps someone

What's your definition of a little warm?

And how can you get 10.5 with a PHP custom tune towing. I get between 8 - 9.5 mpg's and the 9.5 is optimistic.
