I'm looking for some ideas of what to do to my truck to better improve it's towing abilities or just to help with longevity.
Two mods that I'm thinking about in the future are an a/m fuel pump(maybe a FASS system) and/or an upgraded turbo(should I do vgt or fixed? I'm torn because I like the ability to use the vgt as an exhaust brake, but if it's better to go non-vgt for towing then so be it). I'm sure also I'll need to splurge for a more bulletproof tranny sometime soon as well. Anybody have ideas of what else I could do to make it last longer and be a more efficient hauler?
Depending on the type of towing you are going to do, I would start with a good trans cooler. Towing can be pretty hard on the transmission and you wouldn't want to blow it out by getting too hot. Hope it helps.
The majority of my hauling is with horses ranging from a 2 horse gooseneck trailer(steel) to a 6 horse gooseneck(also steel). I have looked into tranny parts, I just haven't seen many rec's for each of the products except what it on the sites which tends to be a sales pitch. Any that you have had good experiances with or have heard good things about from other people?
There are a couple of different sites to check out trans coolers www.nextag.com and www.tciauto.com/Products/Cooling will give you stats of different coolers and how they rate. Hope it helps.
