Ignition Accessory position does not work!

1989 Ford F250 4X4 HD 5.8/auto.

I turn the key towards driver to listen to radio in the accessory position however the radio or other accessories do not work. Where does one begin to trouble shoot this?

You can remove the plastic cowling from around the steering column, and try adjusting the position of the ignition switch. The switch is a few inches forward of the key tumbler connected by the actuator rod. I believe you would want to slide the switch a little forward in this case. Make sure all positions of the key, including the start position, work correctly before re installing the cowling.

Well the 89 model appears to get all its ignition switch juice from a single fuse link, so if everything works turning the key the other way, start run etc?

That would point to the ignition switch itself as the problem however quick couple of tests would prove or disprove the theory.

Drop the column down little bit for access to the switch itself, test right at the switch, make sure it has power to both Batt lugs to the switch (a pair of yellow wires supply it) and that the key tumbler pulls the ignition switch fully back and into the Accy position, and if so the Bl-Lt green wire shows bat juice in that position. Should have continuity through switch one of those two yellow wire to bl-lt green wire key in Accy position, if not the switch itself is bad.

What you discover in that process will show you exactly where the problem lies.

No main power supply to switch's "accy" circuit
Switch out of adjustment
link rod issue between key tumbler and switch
dead switch

incorrect. the ignition switch is on the lower part of the steering column roughly above the brake pedal.
it is mounted to the column with 2 bolts, if i remember correctly you need a 7/16 wrench to loosen them.
