TECH Help needed, PLEASE! 08 6.4
I have a 2008 6.4. DPF Delete and EGR delete. SCT tuner. The problem I was having was Iwould start it in the morning and let it warm up, Northern US cold weather. After about 4-5 minutes it would start missingbad. Just a severe hammer sound. Sounded like the crank was going to fly outof it. Hauled it to a dealer. I had two cylinders go out so now it has a Newengine, turbo included, longblock, new injectors all from Ford Dealer. Dealer installed. <o></o>
800 miles on new engine, warm it up in the morning about amonth ago and the same thing happened. Let it run for a few minutes, and itstarts hammering. Shut it off rightaway. Hauled to the dealer. One new injector. Pick it up yesterday, drive 3 blocks to a restaurant, sit and idle waiting for another guy to meet for dinner it starts hammeringagain. Its Late and dealer isclosed. It runs fine going down theroad, drove it home. Started it thismorning, after 2 minutes 33 seconds it seems to have a slight miss, barelynoticeable. At 3 minutes 30 seconds itstarts hammering for a second or 2 and shuts off by itself. Check codes with the SCT tuner, 22 codes. But, Check engine light is not on. Gointo house and look on internet. Afteran hour and a half go back out to check codes again, only two show up. P1000 and another one that is rear axles outof alignment. ??? <o></o>
I am at my wits end. Is this possibly some bad tunes? <o></o>
Please help with any advice. I probably will take it back to the dealer but if it’s a tune issuethere will be no need. <o></o>
Later today I am going to put it back to stock and see if itdoes the same thing. I’ll probably getsome DPF codes or EGR codes but I suppose that is to be expected. <o></o>

If you are having issues with any parts inside the replacement engine, you will be far from the only one who has been having a spate of bad luck with the quality of the parts inside lately. Being a dealer tech who has installed two very recently and had a rocker arm fall off of the first one upon the post-repair road test, then one that came back after only about 60 miles logged since replacement with the engine running away due to a badly leaking high pressure fuel pump, my faith in the quality of these units has completely been lost. All I can say is, that's what the two year warranty is good for, situations like you describe. Sorry if it doesn't help your situation much.

I put it back to stock but don't think it is actually going back to stock. It way too much power to be actually back to stock. So, I put it back to the stock tune that came on the SCT tuner. it seemed to be better for a few miles. This morning started it, about 25 degrees outside, and it idled perfect. Once it started going into high idle white smoke started bellowing out the exhaust. Drove it down the road and it came out of it. Then this afternoon it developed a strong tick sound. Kinda like a bad lifter sounds in a gas engine. Shut it off.
