Looks like the haze I get after an injector pull. How many starts before this one, Dan? Have you had a chance to run her up to speed a few times? She sounds good to me.

I've probably got 200 or miles on since the swap. I've been told smoke is normal.

There's been a long running discussion on PSA about 238/100's hazing at idle. It makes for a good read. They bring up the AIH as well. But I was under the assumption that the AIH is active in a very limited set of parameters.

I myself, with my very very limited knowledge, think that the PW could be pulled back a bit and solve that.

I agree Dan. I didn't see tugly's do that on cold starts. At least it should clear up is a short time.

A see a lot of that disappear right away - as in steam on a cold morning. Gassers will steam on days that cold - just get behind someone at a light and you'll see it.

I'm not saying that's the whole issue, but that can account for a significant amount of the "smoke". Other than that, there are two things I have experienced that can cause nasty smoke at cold startup: Tuning, and a bad stick. I had a smoker and I pinned down the offending stick (they usually show other symptoms as well, when not working right). I swapped it and the smoke went away... but I have a 9th matched injector to try such things.

Yeah, there is some steam there as well. Once it revs up into the high idle it goes away pretty fast. I warmed it before doing some logs yesterday, it idled up I walked in to get a cup o'joe and came back out...clean as a whistle.

I haven't watched mine in a while, because I almost always use auto-start on cold days, which have been many this year. When I first got the 160/30's, I was watching a lot of the time due to the fact that I was coming off of almost a year of hard cold starts, hence the injector purchase to begin with. I noticed there was white smoke right after start-up for approximately 45 seconds, maybe a minute. It was about 1/2 to 3/4's the amount yours is showing in that video, Dan. I was trying to see if yours went away in about the same time, but you edited the video so I am not sure. So I would say it is similar. To be clear, I too have reman'd PIS 160/30's and DP tuning.

Jody sent me a new mod-stock tune this am. I prefer the rev1 of that tune, but he did massage the trans a bit. And he did massage all the trans tuning for all my tunes. Pretty nice right now, but I'll know more after I tow with it.

I will say, although it hasn't been as cold here lately as in January, the truck does fire up much better, hardly cranks at all and it's running. Before the injector swap, she was a wee bit temperamental....liked the umbilical cord.

Yes they all smoke a little on cold morning, I thought from the video that his never cleared up. You can usually tell by the smell of the smoke what's really going on and how bad. If it clears I would say its normal.

If it goes for 5 minutes, I don't think that is normal. Like I said, mine is 45-60 seconds, and honestly, I am not sure that is really "normal". It is going down to 20 here tonight so I will check mine in the am, and maybe, MAYBE, go out there and video it when I start it and get a better idea of timing.

Here's my bargain to you. We are have a heat wave through Thursday, lows of low 30's. But Friday morning they are predicting 15. What I'll do is take a video of the cold start, I'll let the camera roll. Then what I'll do is edit it down to the start...elapse some time, give a view, elapse some time, give a view and the video (time) when it clears. Also a time frame of the high idle.

Deal?

l do what you need me to Dan. I will get up tomorrow am and video it for you. I will stop it when the white smoke clears up and we can see how much time has elapsed. Then we'll compare yours.

Doesn't seem like the gp's were on very long before you cranked it, I thought I could still hear the fuel pump, you might try waiting longer before starting, some cold haze is normal, and yours seems fine, but it could just be low temps in the cylinders.
