Ok I Admit I broke the anvil with a feather. 66 352,still in truck , I had one lifter stuck so I used a pair of vise grips and it is now, the top and guts are out ,top completely broken off about 1/2 inch in block opening....... should have PB blaster earlier.. tried a good magnet, I have read they are brittle... It is now BROKEN. any ideas?
Yea I read engine is still in. I guess if you can't pry it out with an awl or something you will have to pull cam and try drilling hole in bottom. Use a tool like a dent puller with a screw in the end, it has a metal weight you slap back toward the handle. Or depending on location you could remove cam and gently tap it down hopefully catching debri so it don't fall into the pan.
you could always drill a hole in it put a large socket over lifter hole and have a long screw and washer tighten screw and it should pull lifter into socket , be sure to use a lot of PB or Kroil .
Thanks guys, tried drilling they are really hard,. Problem solved I borrowed a bearing hole puller set [mac tools] From a friend ,worked like a charm, out in 10 seconds.
