Was at the Local TSC store and I was looking at the Coolants. Saw Prestone
Heavy Duty Diesel ELC Coolant. It says it meets performance requirement's of CAT EC-1. Says it's a Silicate, Phosphate and Borate-free formula. Red in Color, would this do the same job as the OEM Coolant? The only Part # I see is P4542 #71316 Thanks and I apologize for another coolant question.
Before I would flush with vc9 I would get something like a scangauge and check the eot and ect,if they are within 10 to 15 degrees apart 10 or less being better you could completely plug your oil cooler.
When I switched to ELC Ultra, my temperature differentials were 6-7 degrees so I just rinsed multiple times w/ distilled water (4-5 flushes). No issues.
Noted and ill check my Temps first, and go from there. Use only Distilled Water to flush if temps are close. Installing a Coolant Filter as well. Was wondering when I refill the coolant can I just let the truck run "parked" with the cap loose to vent the air out?

I did as well. My temps were good and did not feel using a chemical additive was going to be beneficial.
I did the tap water flush, distilled flush and then top off with 100% ELC
I get mine from a local oilfield supply company. It is expensive and most would consider it NOT to be cost justified.
I was at the Caterpillar dealer yesterday picking up a few things for my motor grader and got a price on the Cat ELC, it was $12.50 a gallon for the premix. Is that about the going rate everywhere else? If so, then I think I can swing that for sure.
That's what the pre mix is at my local cat dealer, but the full strength is $30 a gallon. If you have not switched to elc yet then you need the full strength.
If you are "topping off", then the premix is OK. If you are flushing the system and refilling, then you MUST have the concentrate to get the correct 50/50 mix.
Looks like NAPAonline has the ELC Ultra concentrate at $22.50 / gallon.

I got mine for <$15/gal from my local NAPA store. Concentrate not premix. Part Number: ZRX ZXED1
I recently bought Rotella ELC concentrate at my local International dealer for $18.00/gallon.
My opinion on your flush procedure is that running it parked at idle should do what you need if you're not running any chemicals (VC-9, etc) through it. Without a chemical flush, getting to operating temp (190+) shouldn't matter, and just idling to mix it all up, then flush and repeat a couple of times should do the trick. [*edit Remove the thermostat if flushing in this manner]. When you refill it, just fill to just above the "minimum" mark on the degas bottle, run it for awhile and check the level, then add as necessary to top it off.
