So I have begun to notice a belt squeal that I did not before. I live in SoCal so temps get in the 40's overnight this time of year. Start the truck and the belt chirps here and there for 3-5 seconds and then goes away. I let it warm up for 5 minutes while I finish getting ready for work and then I go. I installed a TS-6P chip and noticed that now the truck squeals even after that 5 or so minute warm up. Only 50-75hp settings used. It also seems like where I could let it warm up while I drive home from work, now the truck squeals around 800+ rpm until the engine warms up but did not before. Is this something common or is there something else I should be looking into??? The truck has 2 brand new alternators and the belt has less than 5k on it.
It could also possibly be the belt itself starting to slip. Not sure when you last replaced the belt but never a bad idea to put an OEM replacement and I strongly recommend the OEM belt and hang onto the old one as a spear in the truck if you have a tool box in the bed.
Thanks for the info guys. Belt was changed 5-8k miles ago along with the brand new alternators. Tossed the old belt because I'm pretty sure it was the one my drove off the lot with .... I'll pick up a spare just to have in the truck (in a plastic bag to avoid drying it out?)
*This morning I timed myself and from start to leaving the driveway was 6 minutes and no squeal when I left. I started it and left it on the 50hp tune btw.
Tugly: I'll take a look when I leave work and see if the squeal/ squeak is coming from the belt or more towards the turbo.
Belt squeak is definitely coming from the front of the motor. To my ear it sounds like it is the belt tensioner bracket on the passenger side. Not sure if any are different but mine has 2 pulleys. One with grooves and one smooth. If that is my squeak, is it likely that that is also where my squeal comes from?
Yes, you can try a new belt first and if that don't work change the tensioner. Pour some comet on the wheels and see if it stops. I heard of people doing that for a quick fix.

I never grasped that concept. Your belt is slipping so you add something slippery to it as a quick fix?
I've seen people rub a bar of soap against the belt with the engine running. Made it squeal worse.
The belt you replaced, was it from Ford, or after market. It seems every other non-Ford part I've put on my truck I've had to replace again. Advance Auto starter lasted about 2 weeks, AutoZone alternator i had to replace the next day, Napa fuel filter bowl cap got me about 10 miles down the road.
The belt was a Ford belt from a dealer. Nice thing about staying with Ford is NCF is on my way home and only 10 minutes from my house if I ever need anything ....
