73' tranny does nothing

Purchased a 73' this weekend. 360, C6. Got her running on her own today, stuck it in gear and NOTHING! No noise, no resistance, basically like there is no tranny even in there. I had one bust on me before that had no neutral, reverse or park, but all forward gears worked. This one seems to have nothing. The linkage is rigged directly to the ****er, and stuck up throught the floor board, so I can feel it click past each gear position. Any ideas?

Like Mike said, check the transmission fluid level. Matter of fact, before you try to start one you don't know anything about, it's best to check ALL the fluid levels. I personally know a guy that started up an engine without oil in it (no, not me). You never know when somebody had planned to work on something and drained the fluids and never got back to it.

All fluids were checked prior to start up. All are good.

With the fluid level good, my first suspicion would be there is a problem with the front pump.
An off the wall possibility would be that the manual selector lever has become disengaged from the valve in the valve body.
I would suggest dropping the pan and check the filter and check the lever/valve engagement on the selector lever.

I'd carefully crack a tranny line open at the radiator and start it. If nothing is coming out the pump is ****ed.

Could be torque converter also.
