Its been a while, but I have a question for all those running the Headman Fender Well exit headers. This is on a 78 F150 351m 4x4.
They went on alright except for the brake lines are in the way! Just so everyone is on the same page, this is a full body off resto project, the cab is still off the truck.
But what I had to do to get the headers on was to remove the bracket that is mounted to the frame that supports the the brake lines as they come off the proportioning valve or master cylinder, however you want to look at it!
With the headers on there, there is no way to mount the bracket back on, and for the brake lines I would either have to bend them up over the pipes or not bend them at all and have them run up between 2 of the 4 header pipes which to me would think that would be too hot and cause the brake fluid to boil then I wouldn't have any brakes!!
Anyone have any ideas as to what I should do? Or what some you have done?
If I were you I would bend the lines so they are as far away as possible, and add an extra 12" of line and wrap it around a soda can, it will keep it cooler and make it so it does not pull on your master when you get body flex... Also I have seen somone use an oil cooler for there brakes, but that was because it was a 420 in a 77 stang...
One more thing... Do you have any pictures of the headers installed? (or as far as you've gotten in the project) I'm sure I'm not the only one interested in them!
Here are a few pics of my L&L fenderwell headers that I just installed last night. As you can see, I haven't routed my brake lines yet. rompin78, I have the same question you do as to the best place to route the new lines.
77F, what part number does the L&L header go under for the 351M? Also, is this something you have to lift the motor to get in or do they slide in pretty easy?
Otherwise, it looks very clean! Thanks for the pics.
Those look like ceramic coated headers. You DO NOT use header tape/wrap on them! Going over the outside of the frame gets them away from the starter also
