Lifted78, I'm not sure if L&L makes headers for 351/400M. You can check at www.landlproducts.com.
The headers are coated with what L&L calls "electroless nickelshield plating". As far as wraping the headers, no I wasn't going to. In fact the information that came with the headers specifically says not to wrap them or it will void the lifetime warranty.
I didn't have to lift the engine at all. They slide in from the wheelwells. I had to remove the shock towers and do some trimming on the inner fenders with an air nibbler but otherwise they were a breeze to install. I had to trim about 4-5" out of the passenger side and about 1" out of the drivers side.
One other issue I'm about to go out and tackle is the fuel line. The hard line that runs up on the engine perch is a little close to the headers for my comfort so I think I'm going to cut it off down in the frame channel and run it under the perch. You can just make out the fuel line in the second pic between the steering shaft and the primary tube for #5.

Torque, you read my mind. Thats one of the two reasons I went with fenderwells. The other reason is because I really don't like the clutter between the frame rails that dual exhaust adds. Working on the trans/t-case is sooo much easier without exhaust in the way.
I haven't got them routed yet. I'm still looking for ideas. I was hoping someone else with fenderwells would post what they have done and perhaps post a pic. I've read general descriptions here on FTE but nothing specific. It shouldn't be too hard. I'd just like to hear of other peoples experince before I do the 'ol trial and error method.
I am installing a set of fenderwell exit L and L's right now. I pulled my front clip off to put them in though, there really isnt that many bolts holding it on and it seemed easier than pulling all the rusted shock mount bolts.
I will post tomorrow on what I did with the various lines ect.
I asked a guy at the local auto parts store and he said, he wouldn't recommend running the brake lines between 2 of the header pipes, which I have to agree, however he said you could bend the brake lines a little, but he mentioned he would do it with a line bender not by hand and route them up and out of the way. May end up doing that.
A buddy of mine mentioned seeing if they had any soft lines that would go between the valve and master cylinder, like the rubber lines that attach from the axle to the frame, I asked the guy at the auto store and said they didn't make anything like that, that he was aware of.
Hey all got a little freebie digital camera last night so I snapped some pictures of what I have done. I have more but they are all from a regular camera, I will post them when I get them scanned in! Not bad for a freebie, hey, the price was right!
tellico, are those L&Ls on your 78'? I was surprised to hear you had interference issues with the cab mount and shock tower. Mine fit like a glove. I was impressed. I too had to monkey with the power steering. It was just the return line for me though. My hard line is contoured a little different than yours. I currently have the plastic resivoir. That pump is very noisy so I bought a new pump which has a metal resivoir. It shouldn't be any different though. I guess I'll find out later today when I get the truck back from the exhaust shop.
Did you just get your headers? If so I bet ours are from the same batch. Mine don't have the litte tag welded on the #5 primary though.
Geez tellico, sorry to see that you had so many little problems! Mine was only the bracket! Thanks for the pictures!! I think I may do just what you did and bend them up by hand. I wonder if I could still mount them to firewall of the cab in the same general area on the lines as would have been if I used the bracket. i will play around on it some and see what I come up with!
They are L and L. I think the problem was the installation of the engine by the P.O. It looks a little crooked.....not too bad, I only had to trim 1/4 inch off the cab mount bracket.
Mine had a date on them of 11/02. I bought them off ebay from some guy in Canada.
