What Year?

I apologize if this is in the wrong forum but I think this is my best guess.

For the F-150, what year did they stop making the front solid axle and switch to the independent front suspension?

If 4X4, 1980. 1979 was the last year for a straight axle. 1980 saw the twin traction beam. (I think they are the best riding setup.)

Yes, I did mean 4x4.

I'm not familiar with twin traction beam. Can you elaborate on it?

I only know enough to know for my application, I definitely want sold axle, not independent front suspension.

Yes, up through '79 the F-150 had a solid axle. From '80 - '96 it had the Twin Traction Beam (TTB) IFS which is kind of a hybrid almost-solid axle. In '97 it went to a more "normal" IFS
