Early birthday/Christmas/anniversary gift from my wife who slyly read some of my posts regarding shocks.. and took it on her own to purchase these. I was not going to spend the money... So, she went ahead and bought me 6 of the Bilsteins without me knowing it. Thanks honey.!!! a lot !!!
So, I need to install these badboys. I read earlier posts about taking of the nuts etc, sounds easy. Is there a site or other that may save me a few headaches?
You can find the shock installation outlined in the Haynes or Chilton repair manual. It's basically unbolt the old ones, and bolt up the new. A floor jack makes it easier, but I did my ES9000s without a jack and the wheels still on the Bronco. Enjoy the new ride!!!
Yes!
52-74 Ft-lbs for some of the bolts, but less for others, depending on mounting type. You want to be sure NOT to over-tighten any bolts to where they squeeze the shock bushings. Check your manual!
when i did my shocks I had trouble getting thee old ones off, just buy new bolts for the ones you need and cut all the old bolts including the ones on top in the front which are part of the shock
"...Hold the stud while tightening the upper nut to 30 ft. lbs. (41 Nm). Tighten the lower bolt/nut to 60 ft. lbs. (81 Nm)..."
I'd post the complete text and pics, but it is copyrighted and then there is the bandwidth prob here.
Hmmm? So, I open the box containing 6 Bilstein shocks and notice I have 3 sets all different product number. So, yes I have 4WD and front quad shock, standard suspension. One set of shocks say F4-B46-1328-WO Ford 150/350 2WD Front. Well, that doesn't sound like a 4WD shock - it's shorter than the 1616 model which says auxillary.
Q: Am I supposed to use 4 auxillary shocks of the same model number on the front.? Or do use onlt one set of auxillary and one set of the above mentioned?
I've checked a few sites anmd they list the auxillary pair and then for the samed Bronco it lists the 1328 . Do I mix and match of go with 4 of the same auxillary shocks for the front?
ANd to think I had wrench in hand and shocks almost off before I opened the box
correct... I receive a pair of mislabeled shocks... the invoice denoted the correct shock I ordered but the packaging wand shock did not match the invoice, Looks like they made a mistake.
What's the best way to cut the insulators?
Also, on the old OEM shock above the strut boot exists a washer nut component (one piece) it's the nut I used to hold the shock as I loosened the to[ nut. Do I need to take this off of the old shock and use it on the new one? Hardware with the Bilstein shocks is 1 (one) nut, 2(two) washers, 1(one) insulator- or a two piece insulator depending on the shock and metal insulator sleeve.
