Busy weekend planned!

Started my weekend project.....getting her started....a little early ....spent the evening pulling distributor/wires, oil pump/filters/pan, began to reassemble the carb, all the little things I wanted to swap/rebuild prior to attempting to get her fired up. Unfortunately, I'm an idiot and forgot 2 major details and hoping to get a hand figuring them out.

1. As I was busy trying to get the wires and bracket fished back through my engine bay it was slowly popping them off the distributor cap side (I have the shop manual and know the order when putting the new ones in) My question is, does anybody know off the top of their heads the order for the lengths? (i.e. is 1 the longest, or the shortest, or is it random?)

2. I also hastily disconnected the ignition coil and forgot to snap a pic of the wiring/grounding ...I know it's a neg ground system, so I was just looking for some guidance in this dept...should it be + to hot wire/bracket, - to ground/neg wire from dist?

Thank you in advance! I intend on taking a video this weekend as I attempt to fire her up so we'll see how everything pans out!

Edit: It's the '56 272 by the way!

Positive wire goes to the your ignition switch circuit. Negative to distributor on a negative ground vehicle. See the below diagram - the "Ignition Module" is the distributor on your truck.

Thank you very much!...I'll have to snap a pic in the next day or two, mine also has a small bracket where the ignition coil mounts with 2 posts, I believe it's to ground, but it had both a positive and a negative hooked to it when I took it apart......and I obviously didn't document how it went when I did =/
