Intermittent ignition

So this started up a couple weeks back. Occasionally when I turn the ignition switch to START, I get nothing. Then turning back to OFF, then START again, and I get the truck to start. I have seen problems in the past of the neutral safety switch on the column having poor connectivity and being intermittent, but this time, don't think that's the issue (I can try in P or N and no change). Does this sound like the key ignition switch or solenoid problem?

Thanks-

I would have to say that it sounds like an ignition switch issue.

A simple measurement is required to tell whether it's the switch or the solenoid. Any premature speculation is unfounded.

The next time it won't turn over, pull the wire off the 'S' post of the solenoid and measure the voltage while the key is held in START. If you've got 12 volts, the ignition switch and neutral safety switch are fine. If no voltage is present, then the problem lies in the ignition switch or neutral safety switch - further testing can pinpoint which. For these purposes, a test light can take the place of a multimeter.

Since it's a one-time "sticky" problem, you may have to try a few times to get the failure to repeat.

I was being lazy - you are correct about diagnosing - the issue is that it is intermittent. It worked fine this morning. My son is first of all not used to starting a carbureted vehicle so he has issues every cold morning. Second is that I don't have the electric choke exactly right (too lean). And so since he has to turn the key over a few more times than me, he sees the problem more than me.
