1988 f150 300-6cyl 4x4 5 speed . Originally I was having 2 issues , the 1st which I solved was my truck would load up and not want to fire one warm start come to find out it was the coolant sensor on the front of the engine easy fix The second that I have yet to fix, is a really high idle on start up. it goes up to like 3000 rpm for about 3 seconds and the levels out to normal . ive checked every vacuum line I can see so that's not the issue...any help guys? thanks ahead of time@!
Yea brief high idle @ cold start up is normal, that said 3K high idle even for 3 seconds yea that would be a tad extreme. Last thing I want my trucks doing is rev sky high right off the bat from dead cold start ups...
So then question is, is that "3000 rpms" just a rough guess? or is it as read off of its tach and doesn't sound like its in error?
300 6 with few miles under its belt, it's gotta sound like its dang near coming apart spinning right to 3K no load cold start!
the 300 was a rough guess I just went to move some furniture an checked it , it goes to 2000 rpm and its everytime its started even warm but when its cold it sounds awful ( oil pressure hasn't come up) the truck only has 165k on it loads of new parts
