Warm and cold starts

Is there something that I can replace that will slow my idle down when I start my vehicle in cool mornings ? In the winter and even cool mornings, my Bronco idles 1500 or 1600 rpm's but in the afternoon in the Sun or anytime that it is hot outside, it starts and only idles about 1000 rpm's. Is there some type of cold start sensor or something that may be defective ? It used to start and idle at 1000 rpm's year round but started idling higher this past Winter. It is more of an annoyance than anything so I know that it can be fixed, I just don't know what it will take to fix it. That's where this forum comes in handy.

Thanks for reading my long thread guys.

not 100% sure but your coolant temp sensor may be on its way out or your coolant may not be full. just check the simple things first and make sure you are full of coolant. my 91 starts on cold mornings and idles at about 1100 for maybe 30 seconds before it idles down to its normal 750.

Me too! In cold weather, your idle will be higher unitl the engine warms up, and then drop to 800-1000 RPM. Regular maintenance plays a big role, folks. After that, those sensors are accurate--until they go bad!
