Thumbs down Bad experience ordering leaf spring snubbers

When I was upgrading my rear brakes (I went with drilled and slotted heavy duty rotors and pads), I noticed that one or my rear traction leaf bushings was missing. I decided to order a set from Horizon Ford for $32 shipped. Well, the package came and inside, the bag containing them was cut open and one of them was removed.

I called them up to let them know and they told me that is how they do it. If I wanted both, that I would have to spend another $32 to get another. I asked why the part number is on a bag that says "ONE PKG OF 2 PCS" and he said that they open them up and then resell them individually. I expressed my displeasure with being misled by that because the package was supposed to contain 2 pieces and, had they noted that on their website, I would not have ordered it (I since ordered an Energy Suspension SET for $29.83 shipped).

Not only that, but I had to ship the one bushing back to them to get a refund, as I could not even return it to a local Ford dealer because the bottom of the package says "THIS PACKAGE CANNOT BE RETURNED IF OPENED"

However, in the future, I will consider using Horizon Ford if I need to order one brake pad or just the passenger side of an intake manifold gasket set.

Yikes $64 plus tax and ship for 2 rear bottom leaf rubber bumpers and you don't even need them................... Maybe if you have a spring wrap problem.

Ripping off the customer exactly like that has become common practice at a LOT of Ford dealerships.

For some reason, they feel they can open the original packaging that CLEARLY states how many pieces are in the bag, and sell them individually.

I got into a yelling match with the Parts Manager at my local Ford dealership when they tried that crap with me years ago.

It's a blatant rip off by the dealerships who practice this method of stealing from the customer, in my opinion.

Isn't that where PartsGuyEd use to work? I bet if he still worked there he wouldn't do that. That's just sad.

No, it is not a blatant rip off by the dealership. That is how Ford ships them to us. The package may saw "one package of two pieces" and that is how Ford handles it. They are priced each.

Let's use this example, you need one screw for a piece of trim. Ford may send them in packages of 2, 4 or even 10. Do you want to buy 10 when you only need one? I will sell you just one of those screws from the package because I am billed from Ford for 10 individual pieces. Chances are I will never sell the other 9. Some dealers will make you buy the entire package.

I don't know the specifics of the op's purchase with Horizon but no, he did not get ripped off. He may have been deceived by what there website said.

But the OP ordered a SET of bumpers so he did get ripped off. Did I mention I hate dealerships? Every time I (have to) go to one its a battle to get an honest deal.

You are right it's not a rip off, it's deceptive marketing. That's like selling ipads but removing the cable and charger and selling it separately, but it's OK as long as you say it in the ad.

Just another reason not to deal with rip off dealerships. Its amazing how much money people make that work for them that I know myself. Good for them. Won't get my money!

This happens in the aftermarket too, take o-rings for example. I am billed by the vendor for 10 individual pieces in a pack of 10. I can sell them individually or as a pack of 10. Spark plugs the same way, billed a minimum of a pack of 4, can sell them individually. Not just a dealer issue, but a parts business issue, stemming from the manufacturers...

And this is why in the last sentence I said he may have been deceived, not ripped off. If you hate a dealership, find another one. We are not all bad.

I was on the verge of being ripped off at a dealership. Went to one for an idler pulley for my 7.3L dually. He gave me a price but didnt have one on the shelf. He called another dealership near by and they had one......I heard the guy say, "yeah, I already told him the price". So, the douche bag at the other place was going to gouge me for big money. When I went over there to get the part, the guy was being a total **** and on the way out I said, "thanks for the discount" and winked at him. Theres dishonest people everywhere.

Dealership = Stealership = Lic. to Steal
