So the truck is about 80% done, and it's time to think stereo. Whats the best way to run speaker wire from the doors to under the dash. Last time I just drilled and ran the wires down to the carpet, I'd like to something a little more professional this time. Any suggestions would be helpful!
Is this professional enough for you?
If so then that's how mine is. I don't have the little buttons for the courtesy light anymore. Been gone since the 80s. The wires runs from the stereo through under the dash through a grommet that leads to where that switch was. There was a small indentation on the doors. just drilled through that to run the wire through the door
Here's some cheap stuff on ebay for $16. It may just be speaker wire but please use some type of door jam boots or kits out there. They are cheap enough to not have to be professional looking if that's not your thing.
If you send me a XXL tshirt from something cool in your city with city and state on it, speed shop, burger stand, parts house, etc., i will mail you my set.
I did the same as above, lol. My truck will never be "professional".
You can hunt a couple of these up in the junkyard. Both of em cost me $2, i will keep an eye out.
Those are reproduced by Dennis Carpenter although they're slightly more than $2.00 .
If you do go the stock wiring harness route, the holes in the door pillar and in the door are already marked by a dimple in the sheet metal. The pillar gets drilled 3/4" and the doors are 1"
I am too lazy to take the doors off to drill em out, lol. And normally, truth be told, these would come with a five finger discount because i dress in cargo shorts and a hoody anytime i go to the junkyard.
I actually bought these cuz i am turning over a leaf

That's exactly how mine are routed! Well...except that I still have the buttons for the lights...
I found that the door to door jam boots from a ford explorer (mid 90-2000ish) work great. They require a 1.5" hole (I think it's this size but am away from the truck at the moment) to be cut in the door jam and the door though. These are super easy to find at the junk yard and only cost a few dollars. They are contoured (either originallyor from being in a door that's closed for 10-20 years) to fit our door to door jam really well and offer lots of room to run wires if you choose to ever add power to anything else in the door later on.
They might be a bit overkill if you are only going to run one speaker wire though.
I actually bought these (because) I am turning over a (new) leaf
Good for you, on the new leaf.
I at least offer to pay for every part at my local JY, no matter how small. The counter lady just says "ah hell a $1 for that whole pile of little stuff.
It the little stuff that adds up and then I haggle for the big things.
I like the 90 ish Ford Explorer idea, have to get some of those next trip in.
