I have at least one broken exhaust stud so I might as well do the header swap. I have done this in the past on a 99 using Borla headers & cat back. I have narrowed my choices to Hedman and Doug Thorley. I like the Hedman's because of price. Painted set can be had for around $380. I would strip them down and paint with High temp paint. The Thorleys are my next choice just because they are made with thicker materials and coated. Those are at least $300 more than the Hedmans. If I were to get the coated Hedmans then I think I might as well buy the Thorleys. So, anyone have either of these headers? I have read about the Hedmans having collector issues with their ball and socket and Thorley not making their set anymore but have started again. They seem to be available on the internet sights.
I went with the Banks headers . I didn't install them myself
and my first impression was It sounds like I still have an exhaust leak ( many broken studs earlier )
I'm going with JBA ceramic headers from California.; www.jbaheaders.com , and hope to have them installed by next week some time. I'll report back when I get them on and have run them a while.
I went with the Banks headers, very thick flanges, big primary tubes and stainless steel. Been about 1.5 years now and I'm very satisfied, my finely tuned butt dyno say they helped a bit through the entire RPM range!
I got mine from AutoAnything.com during a decent sale for under $900, did the install myself. Had 2 broken studs, welded a nut to one to remove and had to drill and easyout the other one.
I put a pretty good down payment on the JBA headers with my muffler dealer here in Boise. But I also sent an email to JBA asking them about any dyno info on their headers gaining anything on a 3 V 6.8. Their web site had a big difference in HP and TQ on a 2000 2 V so I asked them about a 3 V. We'll see what they send me back. I'll keep you posted.
I have the Thorley's. Just under 4 yrs and they are rusting, but I plow with my truck and live in MI. Called Thorley and they said they would warranty them. They are about 4 wks out on the uncoated but had lots or the ceramic coated in stock...
Yeah, you have to download their catalog to see the part numbers for the 3V 6.8 '05-'10 is listed. I have a call into the factory to inquire as to their claims of increases. Have left a message, no calls back yet.
OK, so JBA called me back and they said the 3 V 6.8's will see 20-23 HP and 30-35 Lbs of TQ with their headers. The 2 V gets alot more since their exhaust is crapola from the exhaust manifold down to and including the Y pipe. He also said I should see a 1 to 1 1/2 mpg if I don't stick my foot in it more than "normal". Oh well, we'll see.

Are you going to do the install yourself?
I wish they "JBA" had a better warranty.
...Gage

Last time checked JBA only made shorty headers for the 3V V10. So you are replacing the stock shorty "headers" with thinner more noisey shorty headers. All the numbers they told you sound like complete crap to me, especially the mpg numbers. You should have asked them where their HP and TQ gains were in the powerband. If those gains are factual (which I doubt) it will probably be over 5,000rpm.
The 2V exhaust system is garbage from in front of cat to the exhaust studs. Even with the Thorleys replacing all that restrictive OE crapola (then my full mandrel bent aftermarket exhaust) I still did not see a mpg increase, power yes.
OP if you don't mind keeping after any rust spots go with the Thorleys, the thicker 14ga tubes will be quieter. If you live in an area which uses a lot of road salt and don't want to be under the truck a couple times a year get the Banks.
