Iam running a custom tune on my truck and when I give the truck about 1/2-3/4 throttle and run through the gears I hear a loud howling noise coming from the underside of the truck when it shifts from 4-5. As soon as it completes the shift the noise stops. Doesn't happen unless I'm giving it more then gas then usual. It's def not the turbo. I hear it coming from the drivers side window and below my feet.
So, I called the guys who wrote the tune and they explained it to be something with the clutches of the over drive gears. He said not to be overly concerned about it, and it's fairly common...but it just doesn't seem right...???
I have never read or heard anyone on Here or powerstroke army talking about this issue....
So, does anyone have any experience with this howling noise when getting on the GO pedal????
Tuned or stock truck please chime in with any experiences.
When I first installed my Spartan tuner, running the Warhammer tune, my truck would make noises during the shifts at full throttle but that stopped after about the 2nd wot run. My truck hasn't made any transmission noises since.
I have 60K on my truck and just tuned it a month ago... I don't ever recall hearing this howling when it was stock. With that said I have never 0 to 60 mph hit it in 6 seconds before either.. I have only done this 9 or 10 times since the tune was installed.
After the tune was installed I went thru the jerky goofy trans re learn... I took it easy on the truck for 200 hundred miles and then of course I had to see what it could do...
The funny thing is the trans doesn't shift rough or hard when it's shifting from 4-5... It's a solid quick shift accompanied by a brief howl... It doesn't even howl every time I hit it...
I'm thinking it HAS to be a tune issue but I truly don't have a clue. I'm considering trying someone else's tune at this point.
I would feel a lot better if a bunch of guys said they heard this howl.
The clutch slips a little on my trans shifting from 3-4 under heavy load. It's a chirp sound that lasts less than a second. I'm sure it's just wearing, all that power pulling against something heavy.
