Hi I have an 04 6.0 that I take to the delear for free oil changes. Anyway I just checked the oil and it looks like its a lil bit over. I would say the level is an 1/8" on the wire. I'm pretty sure they over filled it.
How long did it sit after you shut if off?
Also was it level?
Sean
Its been sitting for three days. I just looked at my service receipt and it says 4 gallons was used. I'm pretty sure there is 4 quarts per gallon so the added 16 qt. And I'm willing to bet they drain it before changing out the filter. The delear is a used car lot so I doubt anyone has powerstroke experience. I will be doing my own oil change from now on. I wish I would have started reading the forum when I got the truck two years ago
Just tell them to use 14 quarts. They will save money!!!
Also, since they don't know much about 6.0L engines, my bet is, you also have the wrong oil filter on it.
Maybe be best to just, as you said, do your own service work. I was getting free oil changes when I first bought mine and they were using the wrong filter.
You may want to go pick up a 5 gal capacity
drain pan and change it and get the right filter
and oil in there. Then you know.
Amdriven2liv your doing the 14 Qt? I do the 15 Qt and
not having any leak problems. But then again I did find
that at some point they did a bed plate reseal on it.
Nice and dry.

Yes, I do the 14 quart fill. It comes up just above half on my stick. I can keep an eye on crankcase level to make sure I'm not making oil from a leaking injector.
I've seen a lot of posts over the years where someone drops the drain plug and they over fill a 5 gallon bucket and then some. Just from fuel in the oil.
Once the fluid gets above the stick, you can't see it on the wire. Full 15 quarts on my dip stick puts it too close to the wire to catch it.

I'm thinking there using the wrong oil. I had two no starts this winter. But I also never plugged it in. I'll have to check the work order again but I'm almost positive it has 15/40w in it. The filter they get from Napa I'll have to look up the part number.
You might consider getting a ford oem oil filter and comparing it to what you have now. You can remove and reinstall/replace filter without changing it.
Would be good to know if you have oem oil filter cap too!
Riffraff diesel sells oem caps, if you can't get one locally.

If you have a Napa filter, chances are you have a Napa lid.
