That's just fantastic. Its a good thing the dealer isn't around the corner. If I crack open the lid would the filter be smashed or could I tell if the "modded" it? I would go look now but I'm not at home
I don't remember which After market filter it was, but, they sold a shorter filter that needed a filler insert that fit inside the OEM cap. It snapped into place and it was hard to tell it wasn't part of the OEM cap.
So, get an OEM filter (or Racor) and see how it measures up to the one in your truck. And look closely at the inside of the cap.

The "NEW" Fram one needs an adaptor now too. I guess they got tired of
paying for the rights to the patent.
Sean, I think your right that that they may be more than the one that needs
that bit of plastic.

Yes, Fram did add that adapter.
But this one I'm talking about had a plastic piece that was the same diameter of the inside of the OEM cap and was black. A casual look in the cap a person wouldn't even notice it. A guy on here, I think from Canada, had purchased an OEM filter. Got home and couldn't get it to fit in an OEM cap. The part store was like 40 miles away.
When I asked him to inspect the inside of the cap, he needed a screw driver to get the adapter out. It snaps hard in there.
Seems I have seen guys with crunched oil filters showing up every once in a while, wonder if they have one of those adapters inside their OEM caps!
