I recently bought a 97 F-250 4x4, 7.3L, Ext Cab, long bed that was from an original owner and well taken care of. The bad part about the deal is that the truck is wrecked in the front left (after hitting a bridge abutment). The front frame horns are bent over almost 90 degrees and the truck has a good 2" bow to it. I didn't buy it for the body or frame, but for the mechanics of it (motor, trans, axles, etc), they weren't affected from the wreck. My plans are to take the drive train and swap it out to another donor truck. I just have a few questions about what will work.
I know somebody who has a 95 F-250 2wd, 5.8L, Ext Cab, long bed that has a good body and frame, but a blown motor. My question is, will the frame from the 2wd truck work on the 4wd truck? It all looks the same except for the 4wd hardware mounts. I wasn't sure if Ford mass produced one frame for all F-250 ext cab long beds, regardless of the motor, or if each frame was different? Are the cabs the same also being diesel vs gas? Any help would be appreciated.
and 2 wheel 4 wheel frames are different.
2 wheel uses coil springs up front, 4 wheel uses leaf springs.
and the mounts for the 4 wheel stuff are not there on 2 wheel frames.
it is a lot of work to put 4 wheel drive on a 2wheel frame

Are the frames different or just the mounts for the suspension
The difference in a 2wd and 4wd frame is the frame horns. From gas to diesel, a 460 gas frame is identical to a diesel frame, but a small block (351) gas frame has a different cross member where the mounts are. You can make any of it work though, just depends on how much work you wanna put in it. If it were me, I would try to find a ECLB 4wd diesel or 460 gas truck frame. Everything would be a direct swap then.
