Are the F-250 two wheel drive frame the same as the four wheel drive frame? I want to change from two drive to four wheel drive. Has any one done this and how much work is it.
I had a 72 crew cab. The front end had disc brakes and IFS. I was going to do the same, but it would have been too time consuming and not cost effective. I found my current crew cab for a good price. But, it is possible.
I just bought a 79 f250 crewcab 2wd that was converted to 4wd. I haven't brought it home yet so i can't go out and look at it but if i remember right they used factory 4wd parts and just bolted them to the 2wd frame. Don't know if this answers your question or not. I guess what i'm saying is i think the frames are the same.
I remember when I was planning to do the 4x2 to 4x4 conversion on a 76 f150, I decided against it because the crossmember under the motor was different than the 4x4 frame. The 2wd had a crossmember under the motor that would have been in the way where the front differential sits. The 4x4 frame had a different type of crossmember welded between the frame to allow room for the front diff.
What Year Crew Cab Are You Working On? My 73 Was A Peace Of Cake Almost All The Holes Are Already In The Frame For The Conversion. All You Need Is A Donor High Boy From For All The Brackets. 77-79 Are A Little Harder But I've Seen Them Done With Factory Parts And You Cant Even Tell It Was A 2wd.
I have a 77 F-250 Frame and was going to get a 79 F-250 or F-350 truck and change it all over and get a EFI 460, E4OD and transfer case out of a newer truck and install in the crew cab. Or maybe get a V10 if it will fit without a lot of mods.
