I deciphered my VIN and have a dumb question: How can you tell from the VIN if the truck is a real "Custom Cab"? Here is what I have:

Did you do your decode using the first section of the 1966 factory Workshop Manual? The reason I ask is that you are showing Transmission "G" as a C-4 automatic mated to your 352 FE - which is what the workshop manual would lead you to believe. In 1966 the automatic hooked to the FE was a Cruise-O-Matic. The C-4 was only used on the 6 cylinders in '66, according to what I'm pretty sure Number Dummy told me a long while ago. To answer your question, you need the '64 - '72 Parts and Accessories manual to decode Custom Cab (81B) or Standard Cab (81A). It will also give you the "official" description of your D81 interior: Medium Beige Crush Vinyl and Light Beige Cody Pattern in a Custom Cab. Hope this helps.

VIN: F10YK748031

F10 = F100 2WD

Y = 352 2V

K = Kansas City MO Assembly Plant

748031 = 1966 .. assembled September 1965.

COLOR HM: H = Sahara Beige / M = Wimbledon White

BODY D81: D = Medium Beige Crush Vinyl & Medium Beige Cody Pattern Woven Plastic / 81 = 81B Custom Cab.

TRANS G = MX Cruise-O-Matic

AXLE C1 = Spicer (Dana) 44 Rear Axle / 3.31-1 / Limited Slip / 3,300 lbs. Rear Axle Capacity.
VIN does not contain a code for the type of cab, it's determined by the BODY code stamped on the Warranty Plate.

Two shades of white were used 1964/66. C = Pure White.

1961/78 trucks: FoMoCo used the G code for all A/T's. One had to know which A/T was available with what engine.

C4 was not used with FE engines. MX Cruise-O-Matic: 1965/67 F100/350 352 & 1965/72 F350 300 I-6.

Thanks! Yes, I was decoding using the Ford truck shop manual. I thought it was strange to have a C-4 behind a 352 FE. My truck has a C-6 in it now.

Thanks You,
Dan M.
