so what you are saying is the number 1 cylinder is on the passenger side? that would mean on my 4.6 liter the cam sensor is on the number 5 cylinder then????
Well , for the life of me , I can't remember which side of the cover the cam sensor is on ... The crank sensor is pas. side between the block and ac compressor . But ... #1 cyl is pas side front cyl . 1 2 3 4 front to rear pass side . 5 6 7 8 front to rear driver side . Front being the radiator end of the engine , rear is at the firewall /windshield end .
How do you tell which cylinder is which on a 4.6 Triton?
Answer
The engine cylinders are numbered 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 from front to rear on the passenger
side of the engine and 5 , 6 , 7 , 8 from front to rear on the drivers side of the
engine
and also the cam censor is located at the number one cylinder, is this not true? and the cam censor is located at the same. the furthest forward on the driver side or right side (as facing) the engine. so I would believe that the order of the cylinder is on the drivers side 1-4 and on the passenger side 5-8. any one correct me if I am wrong!
the cam sensor is located on the drivers side. on the furthest forward cylinder. Im looking at it right now. just under the drivers side coil. and please gentlemen I have know always that the furthest forward is the number one cylinder. and I don't see any actual numbers located anywhere on the block. now if I am wrong then please clearify and explain to me how the cam sensor is located on the number 5 cylinder. and not the number 1.

Not just these Ford engines ..... My 78 is the same numbering ....

Look at the left side front of head in relation to the right side front of head . Draw a straight line between the two . The Cam sensor tells the computer where that bank is in reference to the crank sensor ... on the other side .
the funny thing about this is I was just thinking today what was the firing order cause I need to redo my plug wires. lol and I was looking on the coil packs and trying to figure out what plug wires go where, and there are numbers on the coil packs that didn't quite match where the plugs wires were going. then you guys bring up the cylinder order. thanks much for figuring this out for me. I would have really screwed things up had I gone with the other way.
yes I understand that JWC, but for the longest time I was under the impression that the cam sensor was always placed at the number 1 cylinder. you altered my entire life. lol!
ok, I bow to the masters. and let me make sure I got this correct. the crank sensor is on the number 1 cylinder and the cam sensor is on the number 5 cylinder. and the order of cylinders are as follows driver side or left bank are 5 - 8, and passenger side right bank are 1 - 4. am I following you correctly? so it was actually the number 1 cylinder that locked up on me?
