Ok I have replaced several Ign / key/ lock cylinders. This one 97 350
wont turn move "its done" any ideas other than a bigger BF hamer?
four foot pipe wrench to move it so I can do the punch 'pin release thing'?
or smash it.
Did you try another key? Could it be the ignition switch itself is stuck not allowing the cylinder to turn? Maybe take the screws out and drop it out and see if the cylinder and rod will move??
All I can say is the truck came in ok the next day cant turn it for the life of
me. As said we have replaced many with out drilling. So It will be awhile
to cold for an extention 110 for an electric heater. Next plan is I will need
Ign switch elect diagram then put a, say 1979 ign switch on the dash and
get rid of all this new day crap....someone said drill it ok what size drill??
just want to get the guts out I dont know the id of the tumbler....
the best system was 1932 thu 1946 coincidal locks fail safe easy.
Did you try wiggling the steering wheel back and forth while trying to turn the lock? I have never drilled one. I assume you would just drill the pin out thru the access hole. The pin is about a 1/4" deep and is a 1/4" in diameter at the very base that goes into the cylinder. The top of the pin that you push that goes thru the steering column is an 1/8th". That is also the size of the hole in the steering column ...(1/8th'') If it was me I would use an 1/8th inch bit and drill as straight as possible for a depth of 1/4". Then use something on the ears to "gently" snap what is left. I have done other ones before like this, but never this one in particular. I guess just go slow and don't go too big on the bit and ruin the steering column. This is just my own take on it...maybe it is the wrong approach, but all my knowledge seems to have come from breaking something first...LOL. Or skip all that and drive a Cats Paw in and listen to stuff shatter when you turn it.....
Yes Spotty, first I have to determine if it is in fact the key, maybe the
switch or I think theres a rack in there. But then, there is no give (trying
to turn the key) just like leprecons welded it overnight. and tried spare
keys too. suppose I will pick it up with the loader and put in the shop
where theres heat.
