And the Edge is plug and play while the gauges require quite a bit more work to install

Are those standard gauges behind your Edge?

Yeah I tried that whole mileage monitor thing. It told me I was getting 5 mpg. WTF ever. I decided not to use it. I get 15 every day all day no matter how I drive unless I am road tripping. I figured if was the one useless feature of the Edge.

There is nothing in the PCM to calculate mpg's on these trucks

Should be some way to calculate fuel delivery based on engine load and rpm, and vehicle speed it wouldn't make sense if it didn't because it was accurate on one vehicle and not on the next but like I said that's over my head I'm not a programmer so you may very well be right

Well, I think with the perimeters it asks to input, it bases it on vehicle speed, last amount if fuel used at fill up, and the miles driven. It's kinda useless if you ask me. Besides, I don't really care about mileage all that much. If I see 15 on a 7000# one ton diesel truck, I have no complaints. My 3/4 ton Dodge got 22 average, but that is a 6 cylinder and a lighter truck.

That the thing. Your pcm does not know how much fuel you have.
It doesn't see anything to do with fuel level, flow, or psi

Yeah Mike, makes sense why it's useless.

My Edge reports about half the MPG I'm actually getting. I do use the "instant" MPG reading like I do a vacuum gauge in my gasohauls, since it does show the relative load on the engine somewhat; but the absolute MPG values are meaningless. Used in this way, it could be helpful in achieving more economy, as can the throttle position % values.

I haven't been able to get any meaningful values out of the engine load category either. If I remember right, it always showed 54%. That's helpful.

For everything else, the Edge is great.
